Onalaska 17-year-old arrested after carjacking attempt with gun on West Avenue

An Onalaska 17-year-old allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle on West Avenue wearing a ski mask with gun in hand.
La Crosse Police said Anthony Ulvestad walked up to a vehicle on the 2000 block of West Avenue South, tapped his gun on the window, then pointed it at the victim.
Because the doors were locked, Ulvestad couldn’t get in and the driver just took off.
Police arrived and said they “observed a suspicious vehicle.” When an officer tried to make contact with that vehicle, a passenger jumped out and ran. That person was eventually identified as Ulvestad.
Police said they quickly found him on the 2100 block of 16th Street South.
Police noted Ulvestad likely tossed a loaded handgun onto the ground near where he was arrested.
Ulvestad is in La Crosse County Jail, charged with attempted armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting/obstructing an officer, possession of a dangerous weapon <18, intentionally pointing a firearm at a person and felony bail jumping.

This is completely unacceptable for this community and should be made an example of.
