La Crescent Mayor Poellinger begins a new term — for the 15th time

While Washington, D.C. is getting ready for a presidential inauguration, La Crescent swore in its long-time mayor Monday for another two-year term.
This makes 15 terms for Mike Poellinger, who first became mayor in 1995, and has held that post for all but two years since.
Poellinger says it’s a job he really enjoys, and he’s happy that many La Crescent residents volunteer to serve on city committees.
“Our most active is probably our rec commission, and our library group,” says Poellinger. “We do have monthly meetings for all those people to be involved in, and we’re really very happy that they’re willing to donate their time and expertise to help the community grow.”
Poellinger ran unopposed in November. Also sworn in to terms on the La Crescent city council Monday night were Dale Williams and newly-elected member Christopher Langen.
Poellinger says many positive changes have been made in La Crescent during his time as mayor.
“When I first was elected, there were a lot of needs in the community,” he said, “and since then, we’ve added some improvements, some facilities.
“So now, our challenges are a little bit more fun.”
Among the “fun” challenges Poellinger talked about were improving La Crescent’s city golf course and the public parks.
