As I See It

Who are these undecideds anyway?

Wisconsin is once again a magnet for the candidates for President. Donald Trump will speak in Prairie du Chien this weekend, just weeks after a town hall meeting in La Crosse. It will be his sixth visit to Wisconsin during this campaign. Both the Kamala Harris and Trump campaigns are trying to woo the undecided voters in the weeks before the election. As divergent as Trump and Harris are in their policies and their vision for the future of the country, how can voters still not know who they will vote for? Well, it’s complicated. Some people simply don’t pay attention to politics until they decide who they will vote for, or against. Some people just don’t think it makes a difference how they vote, or if they vote at all. Others are right-leaning Independents and moderate Republicans who are turned off by Trump’s angry rhetoric but are concerned about border policies and the economy. Still others are Democrats and Independents who don’t feel they know enough about Kamala Harris and want to hear more specifics. These people are a small minority, but both campaigns are working hard in the final days to secure those remaining swing voters in Wisconsin and just a handful of other states. But if they haven’t convinced voters by now, no matter how many stops they make to try to earn their vote, it’s possible time will run our before they can change any more minds.

    Scott-

Your colleagues in the station sales department could give you the answers you seek.

Candidate appearances and broadcast ads firm up beliefs and further assure turnout on election day. They are really not intended to change that many more minds. Many who were polled on candidate preferences never show up to vote. Their opinions, when asked, end up being worthless. It’s like when you buy a new car and still watch the TV ads for that model. You’re no longer in the market, but the ads firm up your belief that you did the right thing.

The latest polls indicate that the “debate” (I call it a media event) caused only a slight lift in Harris’ numbers- a fraction of a point difference in the NY Times poll from before the event and after. And this show was watched by over 60 million people, many of whom, like you, thought that Harris crushed Trump in the performance. Turns out, it didn’t change many minds.

There likely is an “October Surprise” lurking out there, a dark, planned expose’ intended to destroy the appeal of one or both of the candidates.

    What a country.

Actually, many “undecideds” are Dems still hurting from the bait-and-switch pulled by Harris and Biden. They promised to calm the political landscape and instead unleashed all manner of far-left policies, which resulted in multiple wars, record inflation, record government debt, unaffordable housing, unaffordable and reduced numbers of autos to purchase, gender chaos, red journalism, public schools that still cannot teach children to read and write, etc. etc.

If Trump’s rhetoric seems angry, it reflects the mood of much of the country.

Still no reporting on the dead body found in Wiegent Park on Tuesday.

Or the 22 year old Winona youth lost in Yellowstone park since a week ago.

Instead, we get the above drivel.
