An 83-year-old woman was killed last week in Onalaska, after being hit by vehicle driven by a woman who was looking at her phone, and failed to yield for a pedestrian, according to police.

Darlene Wozney was found lying in the Main Street-11th Avenue intersection around 11 a.m. Sept. 6 in front of a vehicle that was headed east on Main, the Onalaska Police Department said in a statement.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, before she was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The 39-year-old driver, who failed to yield, was not found to be impaired, police said.

The intersection was closed several hours. The crash is still under investigation and the La Crosse County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing potential charges.
