Car ends up in Mississippi, near Houska Park, after theft — which included a pet cat — suspect arrested

A stolen car ended up in the Mississippi River, near Houska Park, and the 18-year-old accused of stealing the vehicle is now in jail.

Police, firefighters and the La Crosse Dive and Rescue Team removed the vehicle from the river on Friday morning. The car was unoccupied.

Someone had broken into the car and entered a residence this week in the 1000 block of 5th Avenue South in La Crosse.

Car keys, gaming consoles and a pet cat were taken from the residence. Police say the vehicle owner received a video showing the stolen car sinking into the river.

Kavoendrea Compan was arrested on Friday, and faces charges of burglary, car theft, and stealing a domestic animal.

The original break-in happened sometime between Tuesday and Thursday.
