Why a Stoddard Elementary School staff member called 911 to report an active shooter is being investigated.

The call wasn’t a prank, but there was no active shooter at the school.

Dispatched received the 911 call from at 9:31 a.m. Tuesday. Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson said that call was made in response to a message the staffer had received.

What member of the school staff made the call or how the active shooter message was received was not provided by Torgerson.

The sheriff’s office and the De Soto School District will investigate what happened, and send a final report to Vernon County District Attorney Timothy J. Gaskell for review, according to Torgerson.
