Fugitive wanted in Texas being held in La Crosse jail

A woman from Louisiana is jailed in La Crosse, after being arrested this week on a warrant from Houston.

Rajenaih Appling Allen was discovered traveling on I-90 near West Salem, Wis., on Monday.

Appling Allen is being held in the La Crosse County jail on $25,000 cash bond, while waiting to be sent to Texas to face a charge of aggravated assault with a weapon.

A warrant was issued for Appling Allen last July in Harris County, Texas.

The La Crosse County District Attorney has declined to charge Appling Allen with counts of possessing marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon.

Appling Allen turned 22 on Wednesday, and made an appearance in court before Judge Todd Bjerke.  She’s due back in court April 19, while arrangements are made to send her out of state.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse.
