UW-La Crosse outreach coordinator, Spencer Wilken — Mrs. Photon — in the WIZM studio Thursday on La Crosse Talk PM discusses ChatGPT, road salt supercharging butterflies, La Crosse’s alternative Groundhog’s Day mascot, strange radioactive news and upcoming programs at UW-L.

La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:06 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

After spending the appropriate amount of time talking about all the angles of Groundhog’s Day, we got into Artificial Intelligence (ChatGPT) and how it could be used for everyday things.

That included having ChatGPT try and write the headline to the show: “Mrs. Photon Delves into AI, Road Salt Supercharging Butterflies, and La Crosse’s Custom Groundhog Substitute on La Crosse Talk PM”

After that, we got into an interesting conversation about salting our roads and the unexpected — and expected 1 side effects, including, apparently, it being steroids for butterflies.

The Groundhog’s Day conversation did lead to the question, ‘What would La Crosse’s groundhog-like mascot be — a squirrel, a mosquito, something else?’

And, we wrapped up with some exciting upcoming programs at UW-L, as well as a weird radioactive news out of Australia.
