The tradition of three hours of free parking in La Crosse parking ramps may be going away.
The city’s Board of Public Works is being asked by the La Crosse Police Department to eliminate the three-hour grace period allowed during weekday hours. The police want it changed to $1 an hour from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays.
A report to the board said the allowance for free parking during those hours costs the city $1,100 a month, adding up to $13,000 per year in potential revenue.
The report added that other similar-sized cities in the region do not offer free parking during business hours on weekdays.
The board meets at 10 a.m. Monday in the city council chambers. Review the agenda here.
