North La Crosse house fire claims lives of two men; no cause determined yet

Two brothers in their 60s have died as a result of a weekend fire in north La Crosse.

La Crosse city fire and police officials identifed the victims as Lawrence and Steve Legacy.

Steve Legacy, 66, was found dead when rescue teams arrived at a burning residence in the 600 block of Rose Street late Friday night.

Lawrence Legacy, 67, was taken to a hospital, but later died of his injuries.

Property damage from the fire was considered heavy and investigators are still looking into the cause.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.

    Has a cause been determined for this fire yet? The story gets sadder – the two brothers are still unclaimed at the LaCrosse County Medical Examiner’s office.
