Previously unpaid income taxes from Wisconsin Assembly Rep. Jill Billings have now been settled with the state.

Billings’ campaign provided a letter from the state’s Department of Revenue confirming $10,862.94 check was received for delinquent taxes.

A tax warrant was filed in late June in La Crosse County Circuit Court and a judgement for $7,003 in taxes, $1,308 in interest and $2,447 in penalties.

In a statement referencing the unpaid income taxes, Billings said last week, “A mistake was made, paperwork was missed and my income taxes were late. The taxes and fees owed have been paid in full to the Department of Revenue.”

Billings has represented the 95th Assembly District for 11 years. It now includes the city of La Crosse, as well as the towns of Campbell and Shelby.

She is running for her seventh term. Her opponent in the upcoming midterm elections is Republican Chris Woodard, who is a La Crosse city council member.

Is anyone going to investigate and ask what are Tax Liens and Tax Warrants that were issued by the WI Dept of Revenue?

Case # 2022TW000097. Why wasn’t this paid when 1st notified or when the Lien was issued or when the Tax Warrant was issued? The Lien was issued in Jan and the Warrant in June. What took so long to pay? Why not pay when notified (multiple times) to limit interest & penalties – which apparently were paid in full with no objection?

Why pay in full now after the Media was made aware of this? Why not pay earlier before the Media was notified who then must have notified Rep Billings who then took action just before the election. Did the Media only do this cursory story to cover their rear ends for not making this a more in-depth investigation into our State Representative?

Did her campaign pay this past due amounts?
