Administrator candidates for La Crosse County down to 8

They’re getting closer to finding a new administrator for La Crosse County. 

The human resources office has screened 50 people, who applied to succeed retired administrator Steve O’Malley. 

HR director Stephen Conrad told the La Crosse County Board on Monday night about the current field of finalists.

“Of those 50 people, there’s eight candidates that really come to surface, that have met all your requirements, and from years of experience,” Conrad said, “working in government, educational background.”

Conrad she that the county executive committee meets this week to discuss what will happen next in the hiring process. County leaders are hoping to have a new administrator on board by the end of the year.

Conrad said advertising for the administrator position has been extensive, including inviting administrators from other Wisconsin counties to apply for the La Crosse job.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
