La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office investigator Fritz Leinfelder was in the La Crosse Talk PM studio on Thursday.

La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:07 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska)

Current Sheriff, Jeff Wolf, is retiring after 34 years in La Crosse County.

Leinfelder is the Republican in the race, going against Democratic candidate John Siegel. Both are nearing 30 years in law enforcement.

On the show, Leinfelder discussed some of the mental health aspects dealt with through the Sheriff’s Office, as September is Suicide Awareness month.

Another topic Leinfelder wanted to discuss was the county’s dilemma of keeping jailers and what can be done there.

We also talked quick about texting and driving and the idea of painting squad cars fluorescent orange.

Leinfelder also revealed some of the endorsements he’s received.

Before we got started, however, we had another in law enforcement, Onalaska Police Chief Charles Ashbeck, give us some news on how traffic will be held a week from Thursday, when the Chick-Fil-A opens just off Highway 16.
