Aspseter jury chosen in Monroe County; testimony planned to start Monday

Fifteen jurors have been chosen, and testimony is scheduled to begin Monday in the Monroe County murder trial of Thomas Aspseter.

The jury selection took place on Friday in Sparta, and the actual trial could last a full week, through September 2nd.

Aspseter is accused of killing his grandmother’s husband, Bernard Waite, and injuring his grandmother and a second man during an ax attack in a Sparta house last year.

Police say Aspseter broke into the house and waited for the victims to come home from a road trip, after he was thrown out of the house.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk."
