La Crosse welcomes its first big boat of the 2022 season to Riverside Park, with the arrival of the American Countess on Sunday and back again Thursday
The Countess is part of the American Queen family of paddlewheelers, which travel the Upper Mississippi River. It’s headed upriver from St. Louis to Minneapolis, and is scheduled to return to La Crosse headed south Thursday.
Passengers on the cruise boat were able to take bus rides and other tours around the city while the Countess was docked. Several other paddlewheeler cruises have scheduled stops in La Crosse through October.
The first-ever visit by the Viking Cruise Line to La Crosse was scheduled this week, but is postponed until Aug. 18.
