One area town has a special birthday celebration set for this Thursday.
Prairie du Chien is marking July 14th as the anniversary of 150 years chartered as a city.
Although the sesquicentennial in Prairie is being observed all year, several events are planned specifically for July 14th.
Businesses will have open houses, and there will be a 5K run walk and a medallion hunt. A fireworks show is also planned in the evening, and Pete’s Hamburger Stand in Prairie, which is normally closed on Thursdays, will be open late in the day.
New Albin, Iowa, just south of the Minnesota border, also has a 150th birthday observance set for this weekend.
