One street near the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse will be closed temporarily, while a new fire station is being built nearby.

The La Crosse Board of Public Works approved, at its weekly Monday meeting, a temporary shutdown of Oakland Street south of La Crosse Street.

Fred Mills of Wendel Construction asked for the street closing.

“We’re requesting the closure so that we can stage the CMU units and have better access to the west side of the project so that we can get the block for the masonry units for installation,” Mills told the board.

Oakland Street would be shut down around the same time that La Crosse Street is closed for improvements.
