Neighbors Day has been in the La Crosse community for 30 years, the past 7 with Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area. The day is a family-friendly event for the community to come together to help beautify the City of La Crosse by providing the elderly and disabled citizens of the City of La Crosse with help cleaning up their yards for spring.

After a few years off during the pandemic, Neighbors Day is back on Saturday, April 23 from 8 a.m. til 3 p.m.

Kahya Fox, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area, told Z93 that volunteers can sign up individually, but it’s the most fun when you do it as a group.

“That’s the way to do it. You can sign up as a family, as co-workers, and you get your own unique link. Once you create a group, you send it out to your friends and family and they sign up to join your team”

Fox estimates that 400 community volunteers will help 200 residents get their yards ready for spring. Each group spends a few hours in a resident’s yard.

As a volunteer, you would be doing simple tasks like raking yards, trimming shrubs, washing windows, turning gardens, and cleaning up yards.

Fox told WIZM’s Mike Hayes, “We use almost 1000 leaf bags.”

Worried you don’t have the tools to volunteer? They will give you all the tools you need to do the yard work, and also provide breakfast and lunch. “It’s just a fun day,” Fox added. “It’s family friendly so the kids can come. It’s just a really great day to show off what a great community we are in La Crosse and that we’re here for our neighbors.”

Community members looking to volunteer and those seeking assistance can head to the Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area website HERE. Anyone applying for assistance must sign up by April 14, 2022, either online or by calling 608-673-5678, and volunteers can register up to the day before the event.
