As I See It

Election investigation has gone off the rails

It is becoming increasingly clear that a partisan investigation into the 2020 presidential election in Wisconsin has gone off the rails. The investigation is being led by former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman who was handed a budget of nearly $700,000 in taxpayer money to find irregularities in the election. That report was due in November, a deadline Gableman missed. The deadline has been extended again and again and still the report is not finished. Now Gableman has issued subpoenas to a couple Wisconsin mayors, the head of the Wisconsin elections commission and others to force them to answer his questions. The targets are the mayors of Racine, Madison and Green Bay, along with a couple city clerks and others. He tells a judge those public officials should be jailed if they refuse to answer his questions. This seems an overreach. They say they are willing to meet with Gableman, but not in private behind closed doors as he demands, but rather before a legislative committee. That has sparked a legal fight, adding even more costs to taxpayers. And now we’re learning that the investigation may not settle the most central question to the investigation…who won the election? Then what exactly is the point of conducting an investigation into the election if not to verify who actually won?

Why are the mayors afraid to give answers? The logical answer is that they’re hiding something. Yeah, put them in jail if they refuse to answer.

Robert, the $700,000. cost you complain so much about cost less than 15 cents per Wisconsin resident. Please stop your crying over this important election integrity investigation.
