No statewide referendums. No Supreme Court races. Plenty of Wisconsin residents won’t have a reason to vote in Tuesday’s primary, and that includes about 50 percent of La Crosse County voters.

Ginny Dankmeyer, the La Crosse County clerk, predicts the turnout for Tuesday’s primary in the county will be around 10 percent. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Out of about 69,000 registered voters in the county, roughly 34,000 voters are in the La Crosse district.

Two school districts — La Crosse and Westby — have school board primaries, affecting county residents, along with a primary on the La Crosse County Board for District 7, which has new voting lines.

Eight candidates are running for three seats on the La Crosse School Board. The two lowest finishers on Tuesday will be eliminated from the race.

District 7 for the county board primary is located on the city’s south side, between Cass Street and State Road.

Incumbent Gary Padesky faces Ellie McLoone and former supervisor Sharon Hampson.

All 30 seats on the county board are up for election this year.

As for Westby, Dankmeyer said about 100 county voters live in that school district.

The school board primary featured incumbent Eric Thunstedt and challengers Kelly Nickelotti and Geniece Easterday. Two candidates will advance to April 5 ballot.
