A Minneapolis artist will be installing a giant mosaic at the La Crosse Center over the next three days.

The work is called “Timeless Coulee Region.” It features a pair of herons in flight over a river and will be over 20.5 feet by 12 feet in size.

Stacia Goodman Mosaics was awarded the $32,306.98 contract by La Crosse’s city council back in September.

Stacia Goodman featured a video of the art. She said one of the heron’s wings features a traditional Ho-Chunk design from an artist with the Ho-Chunk Nation.

Goodman worked with area native youth and artists on that specific aspect of the mosaic, according to the La Crosse Arts Board.

It is the first commissioned work for La Crosse Center.

The Arts Board said, “The art selection task force for the La Crosse Center expansion received over 30 RFQ applications from individual artists or collectives.”
