Wisconsin highway death toll up in October, down in November

October was the deadliest month on Wisconsin highways in more than five years, according to the state Department of Transportation. 

In October, 82 people were killed in traffic accidents. That’s the only month with 80 deaths or more since the start of 2016. 

As of Sunday, there have been 548 highway deaths in Wisconsin for 2021 — just one less than at this time last year. 

November may turn out to be one of the safest months on state roads in years, however. Through Nov. 28, there were 14 highway deaths reported.      

Since the beginning of 2016, the month with the lowest number of crash deaths was January of 2020, when 24 people were killed. 

Figures for February and March this year were slightly above that, at 26 for both months.
