Are you a fan of those TV cooking shows where chefs compete to see what kind of dish they can make from surprise ingredients?

Young people in the La Crosse area are getting ready for such a contest happening next week.  The GROW program in La Crosse is sponsoring its 3rd “Kids Cooking Challenge,” for teams of both teenagers and pre-teens.

Bonnie Martin from GROW says those young cooks will have a few days to figure out something to prepare, using food items they won’t see until next Thursday.

“December 2nd, they’ll pick up their mystery ingredient bag at our greenhouse on Vine Street,” says Martin. “They’ll have the weekend…through Sunday and Monday morning to submit photos of their progress working in the kitchen, of their final product, and of their recipe.”

GROW already has 60 teams of cooks signed up for this contest, but the registration period is open through this Sunday, November 28th.  You can register a team at growlacrosse.org.

Martin is working with a dietary specialist from Viterbo to put together the mystery package to be used by the cooking teams in the contest.
