Trapped with their dog, La Crosse F.D. puts out apt. fire, evacuates residents to safety
An early start to a Monday for the La Crosse Fire Department, saving a person and their dog.
The call came in around 12:10 a.m. Monday, a first-floor fire with a person and their dog trapped in a bedroom.
Crews got to the two-story apartment on the 600 block of South 7th Street, found the person and dog. Firefighters kept the two safe in that bedroom, while they extinguished the fire on the first floor.
Two others were located on the second floor and safely evacuated, as well.
The only fire damage occurred on the first floor. The cause is still being investigated.
Twenty-nine firefighters were on the scene. They were assisted by the La Crosse Police Department, Tri-State Ambulance and the La Crosse County Emergency Dispatch.
