UW-L offers its own incentives to get vaccinated

After one school year which was ended abruptly by a pandemic and another year affected by restrictions, the chancellor of UW-La Crosse is hoping this fall will be closer to normal. 

But Joe Gow still wants as many local students as possible to be vaccinated. 

UWL is planning drawings for prizes and scholarships to reward students who get their COVID shots.  The La Crosse campus also could qualify for at least seven scholarships through an incentive program in the UW system. 

Eighty-five per cent of La Crosse students who have answered a survey say they are fully vaccinated. 

The La Crosse program is a companion to the effort through the UW System to set aside 70 scholarships of $7000 each for campuses that have a 70 per cent vaccination rate. 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
