Alleged stabbing in Monroe County leaves 1 dead, others injured

One person is dead, others are injured, and a man has been arrested after an alleged stabbing incident on Sunday in the town of Sparta. 

The Monroe County sheriff’s department says three people at one house were attacked with an edged weapon late Sunday morning. 

The suspect in the attack reportedly shot and wounded himself before law officers arrived, and is now in custody. 

One stabbing victim was declared dead inside the home. 

The other two people injured were taken to area hospitals, as was the suspect. 

The attacks happened at a house south of Highway 16, near Rockland.
