What’s buried on Brad’s Desk?

All the Whos down in Whoville like kids’ books a lot…

But one author’s clean image is going to pot.

Offensive cartoons have caused many to flinch

At some books by the writer who brought us the Grinch.

His admirers are saying ‘But it’s Doctor Seuss!’

The PC police say ‘That’s just no excuse.’

A few of the Seuss books you’d find in a store

Just will not be published at all any more

Some Seuss illustrations caused racial offense,

And ‘Mulberry Street’ is now in the past tense.

This move makes some readers feel angry, bereft,

Claiming ‘See what they do, when you vote for the left?’

This may be one more wound that was, well, self-inflicted.

Like with Mister Potato Head dropping the ‘Mister’

Or like Aunt Jemima…’Hey, hit the road, sister!’

They could have just done it without any fuss

Instead, they say ‘See, we’re so woke, look at us!’

What’s next, will they straighten the tower of Pisa?

Or find something wrong with Madame Mona Lisa?

So that’s today’s tale, about finding things bad

And I’m Dr. Williams…or just call me Brad.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
