The fire behind some Pearl Street businesses last week apparently was caused by people setting fires in the alley.

The building housing Casino Bar and Brothers received heavy smoke and fire damage in the fire that occurred on February 1st.

Investigators say homeless people living in the alley may have lit combustible items to keep warm.

The resulting flames and smoke brought 18 fire trucks to that block.  No injuries were reported.
