Nearly 20,000 vaccinated in La Crosse, which is averaging 32 COVID cases a day
Another 26 cases of COVID-19 reported out of La Crosse County on Friday.
A drastic difference compared to a week ago, when the county inexplicably had 144 cases — more than triple the seven-day average.
With the new cases, La Crosse’s daily average the past week down to 31.7, which is still high but better than last week.
A week ago — including those 144 cases to the equation — the daily average was 61. Comparing now to then, however, La Crosse is still doing better. Removing the 144 from the mix, the county was still averaging 44 cases a day.
Vaccinations in La Crosse County have hit triple digits the past four days and a total of 19,696 residents have been inoculated.
The county’s averaging 954 vaccinated a day the past week — including just 37 Sunday. A week ago, the average was 651.
No deaths have been reported of La Crosse residents since Jan. 28. The last deaths reported in surrounding counties was a pair out of Trempealeau on Feb. 2.

Statewide, Wisconsin and Minnesota are just over their daily averages the past week. Iowa’s cases and hospitalizations were down. The state’s daily death toll has been all over the place — as low as five and high as 250 on any given day the past week. The state is averaging 70 a day over that span.
