Two more COVID-19 deaths of La Crosse County residents over the weekend.

There have now been eight deaths this month. December saw 21 COVID-19 deaths.

La Crosse added 20 more cases Sunday and 45 on Saturday. The county is averaging 44.0 cases a day the past week. Last week that average was 70 a day.

Statewide, a big fluctuation in numbers in Wisconsin and, as usual, Iowa. At the bottom is a better indication of where each state is now compared to a week ago.

Saturday, Wisconsin reported more deaths (128) than hospitalizations (103), to go with 1,937 cases. Sunday, those numbers dropped to one death, 50 hospitalized and 1,606 cases.

The death count is the 23rd highest in the country overall and the 32nd highest per capita at nearly 102 deaths per 100,000 people, researchers said.

Minnesota, which numbers remain fairly consistent over the weekend, added 1,364 cases, 76 hospitalizations and 40 deaths Sunday.

In Iowa, the state continues to go every other day reporting a large number of deaths. Saturday was 64 and Sunday was two. That rollercoaster has been going on since Dec. 28 — reporting single digits deaths followed the next day by a much larger amount.

Iowa data shows 297 new cases Sunday, after 927 on Sunday.
