Winona suffers two more COVID deaths, while La Crosse adds 53 cases

Two more COVID-19 deaths in Winona County, while La Crosse adds 53 cases Sunday.

The deaths — both people in their late 90s — come after Winona reported three on Friday. The county, which had 50 more cases Sunday as well, has had seven COVID deaths this month and 28 overall.

As for La Crosse, the cases are not in the triple digits for just the eighth time this month. The county’s positivity rate is 21.4% among those tested.

Statewide, Wisconsin added 3,507 cases, 89 hospitalizations and reported no deaths for the first time Sept. 27. The positivity rate statewide was 29.7% over the past week.

Wisconsin COVID numbers typically are lower on Sundays and Mondays, which is why health experts say to look at the seven-day averages.

And Wisconsin’s seven-day averages are 6,044 cases, 206 hospitalizations and 53 deaths per day the past week.

In Minnesota, 7,219 cases, 184 hospitalizations and 40 deaths. The state is averaging, per day, the past week, 6,666 cases, 265 hospitalizations and 52 deaths.

That case average as fallen from 7,063 a day Friday to 6,715 on Saturday, and again a drop on Sunday. The drop Saturday was the first since Oct. 26. Sunday’s drop was the first by double-digits since Sept. 11.

Iowa added 2,465 cases, 135 hospitalizations and 10 deaths. The state is averaging the past week, 3,621 cases, 201 hospitalizations and 29 deaths per day.
