COVID-19 deaths at all-time high in Wisconsin, as La Crosse adds 192 cases, 15 more hospitalized

As the state of Wisconsin saw COVID-19 cases soar, and hit new single-day highs in hospitalizations and deaths, La Crosse County added another 192 cases of the virus Tuesday.

The county is now averaging 145 cases the past week, according to state numbers. La Crosse’s positivity rate of those tested over that time is 31.1%, according to the Coulee COVID-19 Collaborative dashboard.

Hospitalizations in the past 24 hours of county residents increased by 15 to 201 total. This month, there have been 61 hospitalizations of those from La Crosse County.

In surrounding counties, for the second consecutive day, Vernon reported two more deaths from the virus. That brings the total in the county to nine — six in the past nine days.


Here’s a look at cases and hospitalizations from area counties:
VERNON
: 17 new cases (23/day past week – 881 total – 235 active – 14 hospitalized)
TREMPEALEAU: 104 new cases (61.6/day past week – 1,931 total – 764 active – 15 hospitalized)
MONROE: 30 new cases (58.1/day past week – 2,090 total – 505 active – 10 hospitalized)
JACKSON: 56 new cases (49.7/day past week – 1,333 total – 369 active – 17 hospitalized)
WINONA: 47 new cases (57.6/day past week – 2,170 total)
HOUSTON: 9 new cases (21/day past week – 514 total)

Statewide, Wisconsin added another 7,090 cases, along with single-day highs 318 hospitalizations and 92 deaths. The most deaths prior to Tuesday came a week ago at 66.

The average positivity rate in the state was 35.4% Tuesday.

Hospitals in the state are at 89% capacity with 1,237 of 11,222 beds available. There are 2,277 COVID-19 patients — 625 on ventilators and 431 in the ICU.

Minnesota added 5,945 cases Tuesday, along with 343 hospitalizations — a single-day record — and 26 deaths.

There are 7,655 patients hospitalized in Minnesota — 1,669 with COVID-19. There are 1,117 in the ICU — 346 with COVID-19 — and 530 patients on ventilators.

Iowa added 3,599 cases, 234 hospitalizations and a record 41 deaths. There’s an all-time high 1,527 people currently hospitalized with the virus — 283 in the ICU.
