Trial in La Crosse shooting, stemming from rap competition, set for March

A rap competition, which resulted in one man being shot and paralyzed, will also lead to an attempted murder trial in La Crosse.

Jury selection is set for March 29 in the case of Ellis “Poochie” Wilson, accused of shooting Justin Tillman in the spine and pancreas, back in May. 

The shooting happened in Wilson’s backyard on 5th Avenue South. 

Police said Wilson was offended by things Tillman said about him during the “rap challenge.”

Tillman was left paralyzed from the waist down after the injury to his spine, according to doctors. 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
