UPDATE: COVID deaths in La Crosse, Trempealeau, Monroe counties

Another La Crosse County resident has died of COVID-19, as the county reports over 100 cases for the second consecutive day.

The death — a man in his 60s — is the 22nd, as La Crosse added 107 cases Friday. Another resident was also hospitalized in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 141.

This is the 17th death this month of a resident. Every resident who has died from COVID-19 in the county has been someone 60 or older.

La Crosse County is averaging 70 cases a day with 28.9% of tests being positive the past week.

In surrounding counties, both Trempealeau and Monroe suffered deaths due to COVID-19.

It was Trempealeau’s second in as many days and fifth overall.

Monroe now has 10 total. The latest was someone in their 90s.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin has reported 5,096 cases — the second time over 5,000 — along with another 142 hospitalized and 24 deaths.

Currently 1,453 people are hospitalized with the virus. Statewide, 86% of hospital beds are taken.

The western region part of the state — La Crosse and surrounding counties — has easily the lowest of that total with 59 hospitalized patients, but the percent change is the second-highest, rising by 13.5%. Only the northwest is higher (17.5%), where reports are that 230 healthcare staff at Mayo Clinic are out due to the virus.

In Minnesota, the state reported 3,165 cases and people currently hospitalized is up to 738 — both all-time highs — with 176 of those in the ICU. Also, another 18 have died from the virus.

Of those hospitalizations, 128 were reported to have been admitted in the past 24 hours. The state has had the most new hospitalizations in each of the past four days.

Iowa added a single-day record 2,978 cases — the third consecutive day over 2,000 — along with 99 more hospitalized and nine deaths.

There are currently 630 hospitalized — an all-time high — with 153 in the ICU.
