La Crosse suffers 21st COVID-19 death, Jackson adds 163 cases over weekend, Wisconsin goes over 200k cases

A 21st death due to COVID-19 of a La Crosse County resident, while Jackson County added nearly a third of all its cases in a three-day span.

La Crosse has had 16 of its 21 deaths in the past four weeks — seven of those in the past 11 days. The first COVID death in the county was July 17. All 21 deaths have been people 60 or older.

The county added 20 more cases, according to the state and is now at 4,103 total. The county dashboard shows 137 have been hospitalized — up six from Friday.

La Crosse is averaging 43 cases a day the past week with a 16.5% positive test ratio during that time, according to the Coulee COVID-19 Collaborative dashboard.

Here’s a look at surrounding county stats:

— Jackson added nearly a third of its total cases in a three-day span with 163 new cases from Saturday through Monday (513 total – 81 active, not including new cases – 5 hospitalized).

— Vernon added 30 cases since Friday (484 total – 88 active – 5 hospitalized). Included in those 30 is a boy aged 0-9 years old recovering at home.

— Trempealeau added 31 cases over the weekend and nine more Monday (990 total – 166 active – 3 hospitalized).

— Monroe added 64 cases over the weekend and 12 more Monday (1,135 total – 215 active – 6 hospitalized).

Winona added 10 cases Monday (1,260 total – no other info available).

— Houston, which stopped doing daily stats, does provide a weekly look on Mondays. The county added 24 cases over the week (204 total – 16 active – 1 hospitalized). The county did suffer its second death last week — a woman in her 80s.

Wisconsin 3,880, Minnesota 1,574 and Iowa 1,310.


Statewide, Wisconsin went over 200,000 cases with another 2,883 on Monday. There were also 84 hospitalizations and 10 reported deaths.

It took 7.5 months for Wisconsin to reach 100,000 cases, and just 36 days to double that figure, according to the state.

Minnesota added 1,578 cases, 77 hospitalizations and four deaths Monday. The state is averaging 1,573 cases a day the past week.

Iowa added 1,048 cases, 78 more were hospitalized and 22 deaths were added to the state dashboard Monday. There are currently 564 hospitalized — the most ever in the state.
