No word yet from the Trump campaign on whose stock car the president will be riding in Tuesday, as he delivers his speech from the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.

The La Crosse Times broke the story over the weekend that Trump would be giving his MAGA rally speech socially distant at 100 miles per hour while going around the track.

Mandi McKinney drives the Z93/KQ98 No. 68 Late Model. She’s hoping to hear from the campaign Tuesday. But, as for the president sitting shotgun, that might be difficult.

“Well there’s not even room for a chair or a seat or anything, unfortunately,” she said Monday on La Crosse Talk PM. “So, he’s just going to have to hang out and hang on tight if he wants to ride in the car.”

As with a lot of these campaign visits, some of the details are worked out last minute, so the Eckelberg Family Racing team is still holding out hope the president chooses them.

“I’m a little offended they haven’t reached out yet,” McKinney joked. “Maybe in the morning, though.”

McKinney will also be abiding by safety protocols with plexiglass in the car to separate her from the president.

“Oh absolutely,” she said. “And I’ll have my racing helmet on, so I would hope the helmet, if it’s thick enough to protect you in a collision, I’m hoping it’s safe enough to protect you from the COVID virus, as well.”

McKinney added she will also wear her checkered flag mask to help keep the president extra safe, despite knowing he’s already contracted COVID-19.

Of course, one detail in this story isn’t quite true. The president will not be giving his speech hanging out the window of a stock car — probably.

The La Crosse Times story is satirical. The site runs articles much like the Onion website. McKinney was sport enough to join the show Monday and play along.
