Another COVID-19 death in La Crosse County — fifth in five days

A 19th death due to COVID-19 in La Crosse County.

This is the fifth death in the past five days, 14th death in the past 15 days, of a county resident.

In a briefing last week, the La Crosse County Health Department did say most of those deaths were from senior-living facilities.

Case wise, expect an influx of COVID-19 cases statewide for the next few days because the Wisconsin Electronic Disease Surveillance (WEDSS) system underwent routine maintenance and enhancements over the weekend, which paused reporting.

In La Crosse County, cases are at an average of 34 a day over the past week, according to the Coulee COVID-19 Collaborative dashboard. It also shows the county up 59 cases Monday.

Dating back to Friday, the county had 99 cases, according to the state, bringing the total to 3,817.

Hospitalizations of county residents jumped by three to 118 from Friday.

In surrounding counties, Winona added 22 cases (1,189 total). Vernon added 12 case Monday (420). Monroe added 15 cases (965). Trempealeau, Buffalo and Houston counties are no longer reporting daily case, hospitalization counts.

Minnesota: 124,439 cases, 8,916 hospitalizations, 2,239 deaths
Iowa: 108,114 cases, 1,548 deaths


Statewide, Wisconsin reported 3,777 cases, 165 hospitalizations and 12 deaths. The case average the past seven days is 3,099.

Minnesota added 1,632 cases, 50 hospitalizations and five deaths Monday. The state is averaging 1,561 cases the past week.

Iowa data shows another 780 cases, 71 hospitalizations and 16 deaths on Monday.
