Third COVID-19 death in La Crosse County; Wisconsin has second-most cases in a day, third-most hospitalizations
A third death has shown on up the La Crosse County site for COVID-19.
It’s the second person who has died this month from La Crosse County, and third overall. The first death came July 17. The next was Sept. 2. Both of those deaths were men in their 70s. No word on the third at this point.
Cases in the county appear to be slowly coming down, but statewide, the third-most hospitalizations and second-most cases in a single day since reporting began.
La Crosse County added 53 cases Thursday, according to state data.
The Coulee COVID-19 Collaborative website was not updated Thursday, except for showing three deaths, which may have happened Wednesday. A release was not sent out, nor was anything posted on social media from the department.
Trempealeau County released its “weekly snapshot.’ The county health department there no longer releases daily stats. State data shows 16 more cases Thursday bringing its total to 596.
In the past week in Trempealeau, there have been 97 cases, two hospitalizations — three total, so one must have carried over for a week.
There are currently 135 active cases. The top three cities for active cases: Arcadia at 18.5%, Trempealeau at 14.6% and Whitehall at 12.6%.
There will be a free COVID-19 testing site Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Middle School (map).
In other counties, Monroe added 23 cases (two currently hospitalized), Winona added 11, Vernon added 11 (nobody hospitalized) and Houston added four (two hospitalized).

Wisconsin: 108,324 cases, 6,897 hospitalizations, 1,265 deaths
Minnesota: 93,102 cases, 7,335 hospitalizations, 1,988 deaths
Iowa: 83,993 cases, 1,303 deaths
Statewide, Wisconsin added 2,392 cases — the most since a single-day record 2,533 cases Sept. 18. This is the fourth time this month — and ever — there have been over 2,000 cases in a day in the state.
There were also another 76 hospitalizations in Wisconsin. The only other times there were more was the first few weeks of reporting such stats — April 7 at 77 and April 4 at 101.
Minnesota added 995 cases, 32 hospitalizations and three deaths.
Iowa data shows 1,036 new cases and five deaths through Thursday.
