Former La Crosse County man could be re-tried in early 2021 for young son’s death
Another delay in the re-trial of a former La Crosse area man accused of killing his young son nearly two decades ago.
Jeffrey Martinson had been scheduled to go on trial this week in Arizona for the second time, in the 2004 death of his 5-year-old son Joshua, but the trial is now set for next January.
Martinson originally was convicted in 2011 of giving the child an overdose of prescription drugs.
Two years ago, an appeals court ordered a new trial because of misconduct by the prosecutor and jury members.
At that time, Martinson was living in La Crosse County and doing construction work.
He returned to Arizona, where his attorney is making arguments about what evidence should be allowed at the new trial.
