La Crosse County adds 10 new COVID-19 cases, Minnesota suffers most deaths from virus in two months

Ten new cases Wednesday of COVID-19 in La Crosse County, according to state data.

The total in La Crosse is now 987.

The most cases Wednesday from area counties came in Winona with five more bringing its total to 284.

Trempealeau County, which has had 74 cases the past 15 days, added one case Wednesday — the first time in single-digits since Aug. 3. The county is now at 388 total cases.

Houston County is now at 63 with three more cases Wednesday, while Vernon (80) and Monroe (253) counties each added one.

Iowa: 53,543 cases, 1,011 deaths


Statewide, Wisconsin reported another 663 cases, 50 hospitalizations and eight deaths from the virus.

So far in August, 126 people have died from COVID-19 in Wisconsin. Over the past two days, 106 people have been hospitalized.

In Minnesota, 17 deaths were reported — the highest tally since June 19. Deaths reached a peak toward the end of May in the state, but have fallen to single-digit levels on most days since July 1.

All but one of the deaths in Minnesota on Wednesday were among people in their 70s or older.

The state also reports 56 new hospitalizations and, out of 567 new cases Wednesday.

Iowa data shows 389 cases and nine death over a 24-hour period ending Wednesday. The state has suffered 24 deaths the past two days.

Iowa does not report daily stats, instead opting for real-time dashboard.
