As I See It

What is next? Outlawing envelopes?

Could it be more obvious? President Donald Trump has not hidden his disdain for the U.S. Postal Service, and is now going to great lengths to destroy it. He has installed a major donor as the new head of the agency, the first Postmaster General who is not a career postal service employee in nearly two decades. Louis DeJoy has helped do the President’s bidding by reducing overtime among postal service employees. At many post offices across the country, lobby hours have been reduced. And now there is evidence that in some U.S. cities, the postal service is actually removing blue mailboxes from street corners. All of this as a record number of people prepare to mail in absentee ballots for the November election. Is their thinking really that people won’t be able to vote by mail if they can’t find a mailbox? Trump has made it clear he is blocking increased federal funding for the Postal Service because it may harm his chances of re-election. That doesn’t sound very presidential. In fact, it sounds childish. What’s next? Ordering the Postal Service to stop making stamps? Outlawing envelopes? Given what we have seen so far from a President who claims mail-in voting will lead to fraud, but who himself voted via absentee ballot, when it comes to implementing postal policies for political reasons, it really wouldn’t be that surprising.

How many years have they been loosing money ? Trump looks at it as a buisness fix it or get rid of it. All government agencies shuold be run like that. Oh but wait taxpayers have lots of money it doesn’t matter.

You seem very hung up on the Post Office. This is a government agency, that charges for it services and is direct competition with private companies. One of the reasons it is in such financial straights is that the previous the previous Postmaster underbid private shippers to get more Amazon. FedEx doesn’t ship Amazon any more because it was costing more than they were making on it. The Post Office is taking the loss, with the hopes that congress will bail them out. The charter for the Post Office states that they are not to be taxpayer supported. The Post Office shouldn’t be taking business away from private companies with the backing of the U.S. treasury.

My Absentee ballot that was mailed on a Thursday took 9 days to reach my mailbox. It arrived 4 days after election day! I was able to vote in person but if this is their best service now I don’t want to ever vote this way again!

Your comment about removing blue mailboxes does not tell the whole truth, the Obama/Biden administration removed thousands of mailboxes also but you failed to mention that, either get the facts straight or do not comment on a subject.

It appears there have been 14,000 blue mail boxes removed since 2009. Can’t believe the power & influence Trump has had for so many years before entering office. Obama must be embarrassed to have been manipulated so easily by
    Trump.
