Fall sports moving to spring for La Crosse School district

No fall sports for the La Crosse School District. No fall sports in the fall, that is.

The district announced today it will use an alternative schedule that essentially moves fall sports to the spring.

The alternative fall option was provided by the WIAA, which will shorten all seasons, while squeezing the fall season in, before spring sports.

So, the shortened winter season will begin at the end of November — at this point — while inserting fall sports into March and April. The spring season would then run from May to June.

New schedules are being worked on by each school, which, the district said, could take some time. Details will be released as details are worked out and more information comes in.

The district added that “this decision was made to provide the best opportunities for all student-athletes to safely participate in the sport of their choice without experiencing any delays or cancellations due to COVID this fall.”

While seasons are being shortened and rescheduled, the WIAA also announced the lengthening of individual games, along with additional postseason competition.
