Jackson County hang-up 911 calls in 2020 are up more than a third from this time last year.
Since Jan. 1, 2020, there have been 849 hang-up, misdialed or accidental calls to 911 in the county. That number in 2019 over the same time period was 571.
A statement from the sheriff’s department noted that accidental 911 calls happen more frequently on cellphones. No word on other reasons for the calls.
The department added that if you do end up unintentionally calling 911, stay on the line and let dispatch know. They may even ask you a few questions to determine if there is an emergency or not.
