The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to calls about an assault at East Arbutus Campground Friday.

A drunk man tried to assault a juvenile male while in a public restroom, according to deputies. The juvenile was not hurt because his family and other campers quickly responded to the area.

Algernon Bow, 42, of Black River Falls was arrested and is currently in the Jackson County Jail. The sheriff’s office and district attorney’s office is actively investigating the incident.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office warns it has noticed increased activity in county parks and campgrounds this summer.

“The sheriff’s office has officers dedicated to our county parks, but reminds all visitors to stay vigilant and monitor young children,” Chief Deputy Adam Olson said in a statement. “These public parks offer relaxation and a great getaway, but the increased crowds also increase the potential danger.”

Olson recommended parents speak with children about dangers, strangers, as well as water safety.

Any suspicious activity can be reported to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 715-284-9009.
