Federal response to protests not very American

What is happening in Portland, Oregon is not a good look. Following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, protesters have taken to the streets of Portland for more than 50 straight days. Not all the protests have been peaceful. But the federal government’s response has been even more shameful. Heavily armed men wearing camo, grabbing protesters off the streets, shoving them into unmarked vans and questioning them. It is not clear who they are or what their authority is, but apparently these are federal agents, part of the U.S. Marshal’s Special Operations Group, dispatched by the President. They have not worked in cooperation with state or local authorities. They weren’t even requested to help. In fact, the Mayor of Portland and the Attorney General of Oregon have asked them to leave. They are taking people into custody with no badge, no uniform, no lawyers and no due process. Presumable the agents were sent to protect federal property, but there is plenty of video evidence of them well off federal property, snatching people off the streets. We shouldn’t have to remind the President that there is no place in our country for secret police to abduct people in unmarked vehicles. It looks like something you would see in a banana republic, not the United States of America.

Protecting Federal property I paid taxes for. They should be arrested by local and state authorities but you have a mayor condoning lawlessness. The Governor could call in the National Guard but they won’t. IT IS TIME TO ENFORCE THE LAW. Destruction and looting needs to end.
