La Crosse case count continues to soar — 4 now hospitalized — while state reports no deaths for 1st time in month

Another 23 cases of COVID-19 in La Crosse County on Sunday, and four residents are now hospitalized.

Of the 23 cases, 18 of them are people in their 20s and three are people aged 15-19.

The county has now had a total of 12 hospitalization — seven in June, two in May, one in April and two in March. Nobody from the county has died from the virus.

There has now been a total of 267 cases in La Crosse, including 135 in the past six days. Those past six days have been the six highest single-day case counts since reporting began.

Of the 267 cases, 165 are still considered active.

This is the 23rd consecutive day with at least one case and 20th day in a row with multiple cases. The county went 13 days during the shutdown in April without a case.

The positive test percentage rate in the county has now jumped to 2.9. It was 1.3 percent on June 10, when the health department started posting the stat.

Meanwhile, in surrounding counties, Winona added and subtracted a case and remains at 94. Houston County added two more cases and is now at 13 with five considered recovered, and nobody currently hospitalized.

Trempealeau had gone 16 consecutive days with multiple cases but didn’t have any Saturday. The county has a total of 94 total cases — 68 in June.

Vernon (30) and Buffalo (6) reported no new cases.

Statewide, Wisconsin added another 280 cases, 17 hospitalizations but no deaths. The zero deaths has happened only one other time since April, and that was May 17.

Minnesota added 461 cases and eight deaths. The state had gone the past four days with double-digit death tolls.

Iowa added 441 cases, four deaths in a 24-hour period that began at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Worldwide, there are 8.9 million cases and over 461,671 deaths, according to John Hopkins data. Despite having four percent of the Earth’s population, the US has 26 percent of the cases and deaths from the virus.
