Valley View Mall plans to reopen for business in time for the holiday weekend.

Official word should come in this afternoon, but Valley View general manager Jeff Odom said Tuesday the plan is to reopen at 11 a.m. Friday.

The mall on Highway 16 has been closed since March 18 because of precautions over the spread of COVID-19.

Tentative business hours for now would be 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.

Meanwhile, J.C. Penney says it plans to close about one-third of its stores, around 240 in all.

The locations of those stores have not been announced yet.

J.C.Penney has been at Valley View Mall since its opening day in 1980, and it’s the last of the four original anchor stores still at the mall.
