Mayo in La Crosse receives high rating in patient experience

Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse has received a five-star rating for overall hospital quality, from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Regional vice president Paul Mueller said knowing the patients’ experiences remains a high priority for them.

“They receive surveys after they’re with us,” Mueller said. “We also have phone lines they can call to give compliments and things like that. We watch that very carefully and we have a systematic process for doing that.”

Six of the 13 Mayo hospitals received a five-star rating.

Mueller says that the rating comes from many categories.

“Mortality, 30-day readmission, how we use radiology services,” Mueller said. “These are metrics that are important to patients. Our feeling is that patients deserve superior service and high-quality safety.”

With previous high rankings from the survey, Mueller points to those interacting with the patients on a daily basis.

“We’re very proud of our staff’s accomplishments, and what they’ve done to help us receive this ranking that less than 10% of hospitals receive,” he said.
