La Crosse County Jail inmate found dead in cell

A 57-year-old man being housed in the La Crosse County Jail has died.

La Crosse County Sheriff Jeff Wolf says at 10:34 a.m. Tuesday, staff discovered the man unresponsive in his cell, shortly after having contact with him.

Lifesaving measures by jail staff and EMS were unsuccessful.

Wolf said the man appeared to die from a previous medical condition.

The investigation is being done by the La Crosse Police Department

The person’s name has not yet been released.
