Viking Cruises adding Great Lakes trips by 2022

Milwaukee will soon become one of the regular U.S. destinations for Viking Cruise ships.

The international company will launch Great Lakes cruises between Milwaukee and the Canadian shore of Lake Superior in 2022, while it continues to make plans to start trips on the Upper Mississippi.

Viking has been negotiating with the city of La Crosse to make future stops at Riverside Park.

Viking chairman Tor Hagen tells WIZM News that the Great Lakes represented an untapped destination for luxury cruises.

Hagen says more information on when Mississippi cruises might begin could be announced around April.
